The origins of Roto Smeets De Boer date back to 1870. The original Drukkerij De Boer was initially based in Den Helder, and moved to Hilversum in the mid-Fifties. De Boer expanded, particularly in the Sixties, by means of acquisitions in the printing and publishing sector. As a result of changing circumstances, the company decided in the Eighties to concentrate on its core activity: the printing process. This activity was also expanded through a number of takeovers, namely:

A new brand was launched, 2organize.com aimed at information & communication technology and internet activities.
Wolters Kluwer NL's Deventer office and PlantijnCasparie establish a joint venture to publish information even more quickly. The data processing department at the Wolters Kluwer NL ICT centre (with 25 staff) was transferred to PlantijnCasparie as an independent entity.

PC Eindhoven and PC Utrecht remain within RSDB but are transformed to Roto Smeets GrafiServices.
