RSDB expects profitable 1st quarter of 2004

RSDB expects to close the first three months of the 2004 financial year markedly better than last year.
Roto Smeets and PlantijnCasparie are both expected to close the quarter at improved levels from last year. Media Partners is expected to close at the level of last year.

Roto Smeets again realised volume growth, an important element for countering price erosion. The reorganisations started in 2003 at PlantijnCasparie, aimed at reducing costs and improving profitability, are progressing according to plan, both with regard to timing and costs. The operating result showed a sharp improvement and is moving towards break-even, as scheduled.

However, the strong start of 2004 may not be regarded as indicative for the whole year. There are still too many uncertainties with regard to the general market conditions and in particular with regard to the supply and demand situation in the Dutch and Western European markets that are relevant for the three RSDB brands. In addition, we have to account for seasonal influences. In the past three years, we have seen that the fourth quarter in particular is of overriding importance for the full year result.

These announcements have been made by Hans de Jong, chairman of the Executive Board, during the annual General Meeting of Shareholders of RSDB held this afternoon.
